The many benefits of dental implants

For many people, the idea of dental implants is daunting. But they are increasingly popular as ways to preserve your health, your smile, and can be more cost-effective over time.

Here’s what our doctors told Thomas, 42, when he came in to the Highland Road office of Huszti Dental Care because, though he had lived with two missing teeth for years, he was increasingly unhappy with the way he looked and he thought it was time to do something about it.

Milford resident researched implants

Thomas had done a little research before he showed up in our office. He knew that implants can quickly and dramatically improve a person’s looks. They are long-lasting – nearly all are still in place 30 years after being implanted – they don’t decay and improve quality of life because they allow a person to chew and speak as they always have.

But implants are more than simply a quick solution to a cosmetic issue. There are long-term dental health effects that come with implants.

The unseen benefits of implants

When people lose teeth, they also lose bone and gum tissue, but implants help keep those bones and gums healthy.

They also eliminate the need for — and hassle of — removable dentures. Nearly all patients who switch to implants from dentures report enjoying food more because the implants work like their own teeth.

Implants also protect your permanent and healthy teeth because they shoulder their share of the burden of chewing. Without them, existing teeth have more pressure on them and can be damaged because of it. Implants also keep your existing teeth in place and stop them from shifting.

Have you ever seen the way a person without teeth smiles? That is a condition called “bite collapse” and ages people’s appearance. With teeth in place, that can’t happen.

Thomas was right to come see us and talk to our team about what we could do for him in our Milford office.

But in the end, he said he was a little disappointed.

“I shouldn’t have waited so long,” he said. “If I had known I could have taken care of this so quickly and easily, I would have come in much sooner,” he added, with a big smile.
