We are sorry to say that, in an effort to alleviate patient concerns and to help stem the spread of coronavirus, we have closed our Milford office for a little while.

Many patients had cancelled appointments, worried about the virus and COVID-19, the disease it causes. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have an emergency, however, don’t hesitate to call our office.

We thought we’d take this opportunity to let you know about the stringent methods we use every day, not just during a pandemic, to ensure the safety and health of our patients.

It starts with sterilization

We practice what is known as “universal precautions” which means we assume all points are have the possibility of being contaminated. That’s why, before you enter the exam room, all surfaces — from the dental light to the chair to countertops, even the drawer handles — are sterilized.

Items we can’t throw out — for instance some dental tools — are also sterilized between patients and those that can be are disposed of safely and according to best practices. Our protective gear — gloves, masks, gowns, etc. — are used for the protection of both patients and staff and are disposed of after each patient. And, of course, we wash our hands frequently before we put on sterilized gloves.

It continues with staff that cares

We always try to minimize your time spent in our waiting room, and we are taking extra care to do that now. This means less contact with other people. Our waiting room is spacious, so there is plenty of space for social distancing, but if you want, wait in your car and come in right at your appointment time.

You should also know several staff members postponed travel plans so they could avoid possible exposure abroad and in airports or planes.

We do ask that you help us keep our office clean by washing your hands as soon as you enter the clinic.

A few more tips

At this time there are lots of rumors and people are doing silly things based on misinformation: Really, why is everyone stocking up on toilet paper? COVID-19 doesn’t have any gastrointestinal symptoms. So, get your information from a reputable source, not a Facebook post or advice from that brother-in-law. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is by far the best option.

And finally, remember: This is temporary. Do not panic. We will get through this together, by staying informed, being smart and helping others.
